CCMA Summer Interns Receive Top Honors at Student Scholarship Presentation
Four of NOAA’s Educational Partnership Program undergraduate scholars, working with Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment scientists on a variety of projects, presented their research at NOAA Office of Education’s 2008 Student Scholarship Presentation.  Prominent NOAA scientists evaluated scholar presentations in competitive oral and poster sessions.  Sherrita Commey, from Florida A&M University, who worked with the Coastal Oceanographic Assessment Status and Trends Branch, was awarded first place for the oral presentation “Chemical Contamination Assessment of the Hudson Raritan Estuary as a Result of the Attack on the World Trade Center: Analysis of Trace Elements.”  Courtney McGeachy, of the Biogeography Branch, won second place for her poster presentation describing correlations between observed spatial patterns of coral and algae occurring in benthic habitats of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Lizeidy Nieves Vera and Rogerick Magee also presented their work on land-based sources of pollution in Puerto Rico and trophic guilds in Western Atlantic fish, respectively.  For more information, contact Adam Zitello at (301) 713-3028 x176 or Adam.Zitello@noaa.gov
